Tracking Progress Towards The Resolution Of The Housing Crisis
About The Project
Canada is projecting to be short 3.5 million homes by 2030. That number does not tell the story of a crisis of numbers, but one of a crisis of time and the grass roots progress being made across the country to track our progress towards a resolution.
This initiative was born from the Housing Supply Challenge, a bold initiative led by the Canadian Mortgage & Housing Corporation (CMHC) that awarded funding to promising innovators across Canada with the potential to make a difference on the housing supply. The dashboard was designed to provide actionable insights to innovators across Canada.

Methods
Our research tracks the adoption of innovative strategies across four target stakeholder groups: homeowners, residents, builders, and municipalities, along with the barriers that get in the way.
Representative data across all provinces was collected during the third quarter of 2024. Additional checks were implemented to ensure that data was representative of urbanicity within provinces. Qualitative research was performed first, followed by large-scale surveys. Developers and Municipalities were not surveyed in part due to sampling concerns and the prohibitive cost to do so.
Partners
This project was funded as part of the Level Up phase of the Housing Supply Challenge, featuring exciting and impactful finalists working to change the way Canadian housing is built.
